The name ''Wiþvada'' likely comes from a shortening of the [[old Adcovtle]] ''Witsi bve la âte'' (modern adcovtle: ''Wiþi ve lata''), meaning "From the Wiþi mountains to the water (ocean implied)." However, in Covtle today, the Wiþvada is generally considered to be a ''rivlé'', because it flows into the Ecvri river. However, the city of [[Norbuj]] has historically taken the stance that it is a ''voltum'', an argument continued today by the [[Adnorbuj family]].
